The cousin of dull bright red which you can see here.
In masstone, an orange leaning, bright red, a very fine imitation of process Vermilion. Probably slightly more orange than the swatch opposite suggests.
Whereas dull bright red mimics the unprocessed, earthier Cinnabar, bright dull red mimics the much brighter and livelier, orangey, fire red of Vermilion.
Vermilion is the red of the Renaissance, of alchemy and volcanoes. Rich and deep with shimmering qualities (due to the mercury), this is an excellent representation of these qualities formulated from just two pigments - punchy, fiery, Cadmium Red tempered by Chrome Aluminium Stannate (basically a form of tin).
With white added, it creates a wide range of warm pink hues with orange undertones, just like genuine Vermilion.
Both colours also represent a huge saving on the genuine article.
