Phthalo Blue Red Shade - 40ml

£12.50

I am excited about this one, I have always found phthalo blue too cool for most uses and this is compounded by its very high tinting power, making it hard to control and very easy to cool mixes too much.

However, the pigment's crystal clear transparency is a wonderful aspect, so to have a warmer version opens many doors.

'Red shade' in the title means it leans to the warmer end of the blue spectrum.

In masstone it is a very dark blue, and when spread with a palette knife it displays its crisp transparency, and on a white ground gives a glowing deep blue.

Once white is added, the incredibly powerful pigment shows what it can do, it eats white! The tints are nowhere as warm as ultramarine blue, there is no violet edge there, however it is considerably warmer than the traditional phthalo blue.

If you want a luminescent, punchy, powerful, mid-temperature blue this is probably it.

The depth and power you could achieve with this if you glazed multiple layers would be staggering!
