Perfect for an initial underpainting, works well with an earth like Raw Umber, for a tonal underpainting, it will dry fast you maybe have an hour before it is dry, unusual for us oil painters! It is a mixed white with lead white, titanium white and calcite ground in alkyd to make a brilliant, opaque white that is smooth and dries very quickly to a matte surface.
The image of the test panel shows the effects of Oleoresgel, Lead White #1, Underpainting Lead White and Underpainting Transparent Base in mixtures with four oil colors: Maya Blue, Ultramarine Blue (Green Shade), Ercolano Red and Italian Green Umber.

Great for traditional techniques!

While many use quick drying acrylic paint as an underpainting white I tend to prefer a more traditional approach. This underpainting white is perfect for the job, it handles nicely and dries quickly. Perfectly packaged, and promptly posted I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
