Charcoal - Oak from Ribblesdale, England - Lumps

£14.40

I really like this one, it produces rich dark blacks, smudges and it can produce a thin defined line. The large lumps feel good in the hand, and being Oak it feels more substantial than Willow.

To me this has the most mark-making capability of all the charcoals we sell.

oak wood charcoal lumps

I am intrigued by the subtle difference to my other charcoals which I presume are willow. I find the oak is much more scratchy to use, but that is not necessarily a problem. I shall be trying out on different types of paper to see the effects as well. So very early days for me but am very pleased to have as I did not know that it existed before I started looking up! And I think I can make use of the subtle differences observed so far. My image is combining the two types of charcoal, just making free marks to experiment with the medium

Oak charcoal

The oak charcoal from the Supreme Paint co, was just as described. I love the irregular chunks, giving the drawing some unexpected features, fab surprises. The service from The Supreme Paint co prompt and unsurpassable.
