Description
It's back! Its reputation in tatters but the only semi-transparent, gentle tinting, white is available again at Supreme Paint.
A large number of manufacturers removed the zinc oxide pigment from their product lines a few years ago, over concerns about cracking after long periods of time in certain conditions or a general brittleness in the paint film.
I used to use it quite a lot and honestly I never encountered a single issue and some of those painting are now over fifteen years old. However there is clearly some risk there or it wouldn't have been removed - do your own research I suppose.
I notice it is still in a lot of commercially applied grounds on linen, etc. and it has been around since the 19th Century in oil paint.
For those who dare :) here it is finely ground in cold pressed linseed oil by the fine folk at Wallace Seymour.
Try adding it to your Titanium white for better handling/less tint strength/less yellowing.
