The Quinacridones are a large group of saturated pigments, they started to become available in the 1950's as artists paint and were fairly quickly taken up by the New York abstract expressionist painters.

Going back to this particular red...it is the most 'primary' red currently available (high chroma, and not leaning toward any other colour too much) which means it is the best mixing red available. On a limited palette this will give the widest range of clean mixes of any red pigment, although to have a true primary red in oil paint is practically impossible this is the best out there. It is semi-opaque and beautiful!

“…colours available to the artist today are beyond the imagination of previous generations and their inclusion will create solutions to many artists’ problems. And for artists wanting to use a limited number of paints but who want to create a vast spectrum of colour the modern pigments open up dazzling opportunities.” - Langridge Master Paint maker, David Coles

Quinacridone Red

I was struggling with mixing a particular colour whilst painting a chestnut horse. This gave me perfect results and I was very impressed with how easy it was to order from Supreme Paint Co and how quickly my order arrived. Will definitely be ordering more of these paints.
