Description
A one off.
This pigment was obtained as a quarry by-product and after careful washing, sieving and drying has been 'recycled' into this violet hued oil paint.
It is most unusual to come across a violet ochre sourced from England as they usually come from Eastern Europe, the quarry this came from is in Nottinghamshire.
In masstone it is a reddish earth with a cool undertone, similar to a burnt sienna but with a cool edge. Once white is added it is a good strong tinter, like many of these reclaimed earths they pack a punch!
It creates really good cool, pink, fleshy hues and would work really well on a portrait/figurative palette particularly as an offset to a warmer sienna.
Instant caucasian skin hues just add white.
Excellent.
