Description

This is almost a cool umber, it is very dark and rich.

Very good for darkening flesh tones in value and it doesn't get lost in mixes due to it's relatively high tinting strength provided by the high pigment load and lack of fillers and extenders.

In the different grades the earths move from yellow and green to this dark, brown, greyish umber. I suppose this is the nature of the earth pigments, and the many, many different structures and molecules in the pigment all reflecting the light in different ways, a world apart from a highly refined Cadmium or Arylide made in a factory.

Cyprus since the nineteenth century has provided most of the world's umber.  The majority is mined in the Troodos mountains on the island, just so you know!
