Description
Victoria Green is a paint from Wallace Seymour's bespoke range of paints - it is made from a single pigment - PG51 also known as Victoria Green Garnet, there is a picture of the raw pigment above.
The pigment is produced by high temperature calcinating a mixture of calcium oxide, chromium oxide and silicon oxides to form a crystalline garnet matrix - which for all those words give us a gentle, light green hue in the finished paint.
More usually found in watercolours and ceramics (sometimes known as potter's green) - in this case the pigment is ground in cold pressed linseed oil.
In masstone the paint is a bright fresh green, very reminiscent of Malachite, slight yellow leaning.
Spread thinly the white ground shows through, but it is not fully transparent. A gentle tinter, the tints are soft, light greens.
Probably quite effective as an alternative to a warm green earth with a bit more punch and coverage.
