Cerulean Blue English - 40ml

£48.40

A unique and very special version of the classic green leaning blue, Cerulean Blue.

The pigment is specially made in the North West of England in small batches of no more than 5kg , very pure and clean. Bound in pale oil to maximize the colour - the oil is a cleaned, cold pressed linseed oil, purified with fuller's earth to lighten the colour and remove any footings.

In masstone the paint is lighter than a lot Cerulean blues (i.e. not as green leaning and lighter in tone). Spreading it out, it's very transparent nature is revealed.

In tints it is relatively strong, and similar to other transparent Ceruleans, the tints have a wide range of slightly coolish blues, with less green edge than most.

It would function very well in a limited palette as a cool blue in opposition to a warmer ultramarine or for those who find other Ceruleans too green.

A real rarity.

Adrian Bastin
Wallace Seymour Cerulean Blue.

This is extraordinary cerulean and an extraordinary blue. It makes a brighter blue in shadows and in washes with white. worked into heavy white it is not as bright as a good cobalt but used everywhere else it makes for a lighter and brighter painting. I'm still working on the possibilities it is opening up with my existing palette, which seem to be surprisingly many.
