Description
I was excited to try this one, having never come across it before and being partial to transparent pigments - it is a single paint formulated with the pigment PBr25 or Benzimidazolone Brown or Benzi Brown!
In masstone, it is very dark, almost black, however you can distinguish a warm edge to the hue.
Spread thinly the white ground shows through well (it is a transparent pigment) and the inherent colour is revealed more - warm, reddish, browns are produced. I don't particularly like subjective terms but polished mahogany is where the hue it at!
When white is added, it was quite a surprise, giving tints of earthy, pinky, purples - it would be a 'banger' on a portrait palette if you can balance it against more gentle earth pigments. Cool, Caucasian flesh hues.
I suppose it is a little like a hematite pigment but with more punch and tint power and there is lots of tint power, takes plenty of Titanium white with no problems. Quick drying.
Great addition to Michael's range.
