Description
Paliogen maroon is a single pigment paint - based on a modern, powerful, transparent pigment from the perylene family of chemical compounds - PR179 - a bluish shade of red or very deep red in hue.
It would be very hard or impossible to mix this colour on the palette from primaries.
A viable, stable alternative to madder lake or alizarin, with more of a bluer edge in there - this is one of those excellent, cutting edge pigments which deliver, strong tint power, transparency, clarity of colour and stability.
In masstone, it is a very dark, crimson, maroon hue - slightly shimmers as the blue edge offsets the heat of the red and the eye is left a little confused, well my eye anyway!
Spread thinly with a palette knife on a white ground and the power of the colour and the crisp transparency starts to show, with almost glowing cool reds produced, see the above image. Madder like glazes.
An abundance of tint power means it can handle titanium white with ease and it creates a wide range of tints of the cold violet variety.
Cracking paint!
