Description
Naples yellow Paris, made to an historic recipe with Lead Antimonate, ground on stone rollers and bound in linseed oil with nothing else added.
The hue in masstone is similar to the Naples yellow dark from Rublev, this is just slightly lower in value and has a bit more depth, the hue is a muted, ocherous, yellow, remarkably earthy looking.
It is a strong tinter and provides a wide range of steps from muted yellow, browns to light yellow greys, it seems to change the nature of its hue as you add more white - there is a lot going on in this paint.
Like other varieties, its feel and body are wonderful, it has a natural density but isn't thick or stodgy, it's got substance.
Writing about it now, for me it is almost the perfect paint in terms of the experience of using it, it just feels good under the brush and knife and it is interesting and surprising visually.
Very good oil paint.
