Description
Lochaber green quartz is made from a metamorphic serpentine from North West Scotland - one of those very rare and unusual pigments, gentle and ephemeral - the hue is soft green grey. Please see the second image above for a sample of the actual rock.
No great surprise but the tint power is very low and this paint is really going to be useful as it stands rather than a 'mixing' colour - although I can get it to leave a trace of colour when mixed with Titanium white.
Spread thinly with a palette knife the ground immediately shows through - although it does have enough body that you can create an opaque layer if required - which is a mid-value grey with a greenish edge and slight quartzy sheen. When used thicker like that it is quite a beautiful natural, organic, earthy grey - much more solid than the swatch suggests.
Slightly gritty under the knife.
I like this paint a lot - but please note this is not a mass produced buttery strong colour, it is a lot more textural and inherently interesting.
