Description
Armenian brown mummy is a single pigment paint based on a red iron oxide sourced from the beautiful Vayotz Dzor province of Armenia - photo of the area above - observe the red, iron rich rocks of the mountains!
In masstone the paint is a brownish red or warm brown. When spread thinly with a palette knife it displays surprisingly good coverage, almost feels like a synthetic earth with really good body and density to the paint, it is apparently a very fine grained pigment and this shows in the unadulterated paint.
No problems with tint power, it handles titanium white with ease and the tints, are a variety of warm, greyed pink hues, with a very slight purplish edge in there - doesn't look quite as warm as the swatch shows above, however the titanium white has probably cooled it a little and there would be more warmth with lead carbonate as the white.
A really high quality earth, great for transitional areas in portrait or figurative work, similar to a hematite but warmer without so much of the violet coolness.
