French Raw Umber - 50ml

£15.75

In masstone this is a dark brown with a subtle greenish edge. It is fairly neutral in temperature, although I would class it as leaning slightly warm rather than cool. The most warmth is seen when used thinly, and its semi-transparent nature allows for more light through.

The tints when mixed with white are fairly neutral greys with a gentle warmth, it is a relatively strong tinter.

It paints 'long' meaning it is fairly lean in body and also makes it a pleasure to use without any medium. A very good raw umber and would be very useful to the portrait or landscape painter.

It is sourced from French quarries in the Luberon massif, many of which are no longer mined.

Another cool Earth.

Very different from any other Umber on the market & once tried you're hooked. These cool Earths work very well sitting alongside any of the warmer Earths, most of the red Earths & the various blues spring to mind. Whether you're cooling down a red or green or mixing a cool brown the quality of the finest single pigment will help you progress at a much faster rate as the paints do not "muddy up" mixes like inferior paint often does. I know I have still much to learn but experimenting with amazing quality paint will make it an adventure I will embrace.
