Augite Porphyry Violet Deep - 40ml

£16.20

Unique to Wallace Seymour, a most unusual pigment.

In masstone (straight from the tube) it has the appearance of Raw Umber, dark brown. However that is where all comparisons with Raw Umber end!

It paints pretty long, and once spread thinly it appears quite thin, there isn't much bulk to it, similar to how a Terre Verte handles.

Once white is added, it reveals it's gentle tint power and produces sublime, chromatic 'greys' of a warm, violet hue. These are 'greys' which vibrate and have depth.

This paint will work well where very subtle shifts are required and in combination with other earth pigments.

In geology Augite is a term used for various igneous rocks containing quartz and/or feldspar dispersed in a silicate matrix. The raw material is hard and packed tight (as with marble). Due to its crystalline nature is can be finely ground and used in paint-making. The exact colour is governed by exposure to heat during formation.
