Pozzuoli red is a classic portrait painting earth colour, equivalent to an English Red, it produces glowing, pinky flesh tints, which can then be tempered with raw umber or an equivalent.
It's masstone is a deep, orange, red. Classed as semi-transparent it appears to me more opaque that than. Warm orange undertones, it also has good tinting strength, making it easy to produce a wide range of fleshy tints.
It is sourced from Northern Italy.
It has that classic Rublev body to it, painting long, powerful brushstrokes straight from the tube.
Really almost essential to try if you render flesh in painting.
