To my eye, this has the feel of a very warm brown ochre, and to put that further in context a deep reddish brown.
Again like mars yellow this is essentially is a synthetic ochre developed in the 1920's on the late side of the boom in synthetic pigments and dyes. Like its natural cousins it is a mix of iron oxides, however these particular ones are created synthetically. The colour is dictated by the amount of heat and moisture used in the process.
The result is a very clean, concentrated, opaque, reddish brown. It is the consistency in colour and texture which really appeals.
Opaque, tint strength medium, drying fast, excellent lightfastness, poppyseed oil
