This was originally an even more purplish, natural iron oxide imported from India.
However, like nearly all modern Indian reds, this version is a deeper, cooler, synthetic Iron Oxide. Having a greater colour density than its historical cousin, it makes hues with conspicuously purplish undertones. Very useful for creating deep, dark red shades.
In tints, white produces cold, lilac hues. Good strong tinter.
Particularly good when mixed with bone black, to recreate some of the darkest shadows found on human skin.
