Hot, hot, hot! Deep yellow, lurching towards orange, opaque, powerful, luminous and radiant. A classic, the tints of this are sublime, the swatch on the left does not do justice to it.
It is a mix of Cadmium Zinc Sulfide and Cadmium Sulfide, basically the yellow cadmium pigment and the orange cadmium pigment, giving an opaque, powerful, glowing paint. Such is the strength and opacity of this paint it will go a very long way and with it's fine handling and buttery texture I would class this as a must on nearly all palettes.
Cadmium has been an important artists' pigment since the yellow hue was discovered and commercially introduced in the mid 19th century (the orange and red hues were introduced in the early 20th century), but 19th century usage was limited by cadmium's high price and the impermanence introduced by manufacturing impurities. Those issues were overcome to create the greatest pigment range of the 20th Century.
