Really pinkish red tilt to this deep Sienna, as always it consists of natural iron oxide bound in linseed oil, the pigment being calcined (basically heated to just below melting point) before grinding. Like the other Blockx earths this will appeal to the portrait painter, as when it is tinted with white the tones are fleshy.
Cracking consistency and buttery texture, lovely paint. Sometimes with handmade oils, particularly with the earths there is a gritty texture, which is quite appealing and gives a varied refraction of light, however this is so perfectly refined there is just pure, buttery smoothness which has it's benefits too.
Fast Drying. Semi-Opaque. Excellent Lightfastness. Average Oil Content.
