Crimson Ochre - 50ml

£21.90

Crimson ochre is made with an iron oxide pigment sourced from the quarries in the Lori province of northern Armenia.

It is a reddish, crimson in masstone with purplish-pink undertones. It makes gentle lilac tints when mixed with white.

Very good for portrait work, it will also work as a glaze due to it's semi-transparent qualities. Quite lean in body, it paints 'long'.

Rublev's description ;

"Red iron oxide or ferric oxide is the principle colouring agent in red ochres, such as Crimson ochre. This colour is based on the natural mineral hematite associated with varying proportions of other minerals such as clay, chalk and silica. They differ from other ochres in that they do not contain water bound with iron oxide."

Awesome Earths.

Before I discovered Rublev oil paints & this website I had no idea just how many different hues could be found with Earth Pigments. The range that Rublev offer is outstanding & their dedication & integrity should be applauded, I have not used one that isn't beautiful to look at & an absolute joy to work with. Crimson ochre is no exception & being semi transparent can be used in many ways. I've used it tinted with flake white & as a glaze & am very impressed with the pigment loading & just how Crimson it is. While it's still obviously an earthy Crimson if you used this as a glaze over a Cadmium red you would never guess it's an Earth pigment. Yet another gem from Natural Pigments & only available from Supreme in the uk. I strongly recommend this paint it's awesome!
