Chrome Yellow Light - 50ml

£26.50

A bright, mid-value, yellow with high tinting strength. A very good mixing yellow being neither too cool or warm. Large range of radiant tints when white is added.

Chrome yellow enjoyed a brief history of widespread use among nineteenth century artists, such as Turner, Manet, Cézanne, Monet, and Pissarro. However it fell out of use as it was found to darken over time, the pigment now has been slightly modified to avoid this issue.

Rublev's description;

"Chrome Yellow Light is lead chromate, obtained synthetically as a yellow crystalline powder by precipitation from a solution of a lead salt. Chrome yellow light has excellent hiding power with bright yellow hue and high tinting strength.

Chrome was discovered by the French chemist Nicolas Louis Vauquelin in late 1790 in the mineral crocoite (lead sulfochromate). Vauquelin studied the different chrome compounds and found he could obtain a wide range of colours from greenish-yellow to orange shades."
